Saroj Kumar Pradhan
Saroj Kumar Pradhan (born 27 May 1973) is an Indian folk artist from Odisha, associated with the traditional performing art form of Pala. He has been actively engaged in the field since 1992 and is known for his dedication to preserving and promoting this cultural heritage.
Early life and background
Saroj Kumar Pradhan was born in Gudupailo village under Delanga block in Puri district, Odisha. He is the son of Shankar Pradhan and Pavani Pradhan. Raised in a culturally rooted environment, he developed an early inclination toward traditional music and devotional art forms.
Education
He completed his graduation in Commerce from Samanta Chandra Sekhar College, Puri, building a strong academic foundation alongside his cultural pursuits.
Career
Pradhan began his journey in Pala in 1992 on the auspicious occasion of Gahma Purnima. He received formal training under Pala Guru Banashree Binayak Mishra, which played a key role in shaping his artistic skills and performance style.
Since then, he has been actively performing and contributing to the continuity of the Pala tradition. His performances reflect a blend of devotional expression, storytelling, and classical structure, aligned with the traditional format of the art form.
